  • Dreams do come true

Benedictine's Connor Ferguson announced Monday that he has committed to the University of Georgia as a preferred walk on. Ferguson is ranked No. 7 in the nation in the Kohl's Kicking rankings and is No. 1 in Georgia.
"I've been a Georgia fan since I was in kindergarten, and when I got to visit there and just loved the atmosphere, the school and the facilities — I mean, what's not to love. I developed a really strong relationship with the coaches there and that meant a lot. You could say this is a dream come true for me."
Ferguson said he thinks he'll have a chance to compete for the kickoff job right away, and he hopes to earn a full scholarship as he continues to develop as a Bulldog. An 'A' student, Ferguson said he plans to major in aerospace or aeronautical engineering with a path toward aviation.

  • Alumni in football spotlight

Two former Benedictine standouts delivered stellar performances for their respective colleges. Luke Kromenhoek '24, a true freshman quarterback at Florida State, made his first collegiate start unforgettable. Kromenhoek threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Seminoles to a 41-7 victory over Charleston Southern. He has been named the starter for the Seminoles' game against Florida in Tallahassee at 7 p.m. Nov. 30.
Gavin Stewart '20, a senior kicker at Georgia Southern, tied his career high with 14 points in the Eagles' victory over Coastal Carolina. He converted four of five field goals and nailed both points after touchdowns (PAT), marking just the second time in his college career that he's hit four field goals in a game. Stewart's reliability continues to be a key asset for the Eagles this season. Georgia Southern hosts Appalachian State at 6 p.m. Saturday.

  • Defense Dominates

Benedictine continued to embrace its role as road warriors as the Cadets traveled to McDonough to take down a No. 1 seed in Ola (11-1) 34-14. The Cadet defense was led by senior Miami commit Third Scroggins, who had two more sacks to give him 21 on the year, and junior Kam Cody. "We started slow, but we made the adjustments we needed to defensively and played with physicality in the second half," Head Coach Danny Britt reported. "Third had another incredible game with a couple more sacks and I think that keeps him on top of the leaderboard (Scroggins leads the state, across all classifications, in sacks)." The Cadets will be on the road again to face Blessed Trinity (10-1) in a Class 4A quarterfinal matchup on Friday, November 29 at 7:30 PM.

  • 1st Round Win

Benedictine went on the road and had an impressive win as the Cadets, the No. 3 seed out of Region 1-4A, looked strong to advance to the second round of the Class 4A playoff. The Cadets had a huge defensive game with six interceptions on the night, with Wyatt Estabrook picking off three throws. The junior ran one of them back 88 yards to set up a short touchdown run by Bubba Frazier and had a pick-six of 38 yards in the third quarter on his third interception of the night.
Frazier had three touchdown runs on the night, including a 25-yard run to open the scoring with 8:19 left in the first half, and ran for 76 yards. Jack Ganem reeled in a deflected pass and made the most of it with a 46-yard touchdown with 4:46 left in the first half.
Zach Maxwell also had a pair of interceptions for the Cadets. Estabrook now has six picks on the season and Maxwell has four.
  • Sweet 16 Next

For the BC, it was a night when the defense easily outshone the offense. Intercepting six passes makes this very difficult to dispute. The Cadets won a convincing 35-13 victory over Southwest DeKalb in the opening round of the GHSA Class AAAA playoff game at Godfrey Stadium in Decatur. Wyatt Estabrook paced the defense with three picks on the night, one a 36-yard return for a touchdown. On the other side of the ball, Bubba Frazier rushed for three touchdowns and 76 yards.
With the win, Benedictine (6-4, third seed, Region 1) will travel to Ola (top seed, Region 2) for a second-round matchup next Friday night at 7:30 PM.

  • Ganem Honored by GHSFD

Congratulations to Benedictine Military School senior Jack Ganem, who was selected to Georgia High School Football Daily’s “Best of the Rest” Georgia Power Top Performances list for his five catches for 156 yards and a touchdown in BC’s 40-0 victory at Wayne County last Friday night!
  • Region Win

Benedictine traveled to Wayne County and had a solid victory in the Region 1-4A game. Omari Burse had his first start at quarterback as the sophomore connected on touchdown strikes to Jack Ganem and Eron Mallard. Junior Bubba Frazier had a pair of rushing touchdowns and senior Marque Williams had a huge defensive play with an interception return for a touchdown of 100 yards. Connor Ferguson converted both his field goal attempts.
BC improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Cadets host Perry (6-2, 3-0), the defending Class 4A state champion on Friday, Oct. 25, at Memorial Stadium at 7:30 PM.
  • Tough Region Game

Benedictine and Ware County were locked in a rugged Region 1-4A battle on Friday night at Memorial Stadium. At intermission, the Cadets led the Gators 14-10.
On the first possession of the second half, BC recovered a fumble and had the ball on the Gator 26-yard line, but that was the last bit of luck the Cadets would see all night.
On the first offensive play of the third quarter, Benedictine quarterback Stephen Cannon was sacked by Seth Suess and came down hard on his throwing shoulder. The standout junior signal caller was sideline for the rest of the game with a bag of ice strapped to his throwing shoulder.
Ware County went to work after that as the Gator ground game took over with four second half touchdowns to win 38-14.
Cannon was 7 of 9 passing for 94 yards with a 52-yard scoring strike to Joshua Washington, who got a big block downfield from center Lawrence Rivers, in the first half. Cannon also scored on a 3-yard run on a perfectly executed bootleg that fooled the Gator defense. Sophomore running back Stanley Smart Jr. ran for 73 yards on five carries and was also injured, missing nearly all of the second half.
University of Miami assistant coach Jason Taylor, an NFL Hall of Famer as a defensive end, was on the sideline to watch BC's senior Third Scroggins, a Hurricane commit. Scroggins had another sack and has 13.5 on the season.
  • Region Win for Cadets

Benedictine went on the road and had a strong showing in its Region 1-4A opener at Warner Robins.
The Cadets (3-2, 1-0) got off to great start as quarterback Stephen Cannon had three scoring passes in the first half as BC took a 21-7 lead at intermission. The junior connected with senior tight end John Lilly, junior receiver Joshua Washington and senior slot Jack Ganem for the touchdowns. Cannon was 11 of 14 passing for 207 yards with the three touchdowns. Stanley Smart Jr., the sophomore who is also a standout sprinter on the Cadet track and field team, showed off his blazing speed as he broke loose for a career-long 70-yard touchdown on the first drive of the second half. Eron Mallard added a short scoring touchdown for BC, which will host Ware County next Friday at Memorial Stadium.

  • Connor Ferguson ranked as No. 1 kicker in Georgia

With the typical sideline chaos of a high school football game all around him, Benedictine's Connor Ferguson is always a picture of calm within the storm. His career-long 50-yard field goal against Burke County was the latest in a long line of big-time plays for Ferguson, who is ranked No. 1 in Georgia and No. 7 in the nation in the Kohl's National Kicker Rankings. He is 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts this season, with another blast from 48 yards in a season-opening loss to Rabun County, while converting all 11 of his PAT tries. He has forced touchbacks on 11 of his 17 kickoffs, while averaging 44 yards with his high-flying, booming punts. Ferguson has offers from Valdosta State, Arkansas State, and Murray State, but has the potential to be a Power-Five player. Pack the stands as Ferguson and the Cadets host Westminster at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at Memorial Stadium.

  • Great Win for Cadets

Transfer Josh Washington had the best performance of his prep career as he reeled in six passes for 140 yards, with scoring catches of 31 and 43 yards from Stephen Cannon, in just his third game as the Cadet starter. Cannon was 16 of 24 for 330 yards with three touchdown passes.
Benedictine's Micah Williams, a standout defensive back with offers from Georgia Tech and North Carolina, showed he can play a little offense too. He had two touches on the night ― catching a 38-yard scoring pass from Cannon on another pass in the flat where he made a man miss in route to the end zone, and taking a reverse 50 yards around the right end to set up a 4-yard scoring run by Bubba Frazier in the first quarter.
Senior kicker Connor Ferguson connected on a career best 50-yard field goal and added a chip in from 23 yards, while converting all four of his PAT attempts.
Sophomore defensive back Eron Mallard had a highlight-reel-worthy play in the finals minutes of the game when he picked off Sean Vandiver three yards deep in the BC end zone and took off to the races down the right sideline with an impressive burst of speed leaving would be tacklers in his wake. • WTOC Play of the Week 8/30/2024 - Larson Little

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Benedictine turned the football over on the Burke County one yard line midway through the first quarter Friday night. Larson Little wasted no time rocketing into the backfield and earning two points for the Cadets. The effort earned this week’s End Zone Play of the Week.
The safety put the momentum back in the hands of the Cadets, only allowing seven points in the final three quarters, and shutting out the Bears in the second half.
  • Proud of the Cadets!

“I was extremely proud of the boys, they played unbelievably hard," BC Coach Danny Britt said. "They kept fighting and got stronger as the game went on. For us to play a perennial national power at their place in front of a huge crowd like that showed me a lot. The moment wasn't too big for them."
Benedictine is set to host Burke County next Friday at Memorial Stadium at 7:30 PM.

  • Week 1

As Kam Cody stated: "That was probably the best offensive line I've ever played against. They were tough and able to hold their blocks. We took the loss, but we have to remember this is only Week 1. We need to go to work and come back with a better version of ourselves." Rabun Gap Nacoochee School is an international boarding school with 5 years eligibility for it's student-athletes.

Connor Ferguson is the No. 7 place-kicker nationally, per Kohl’s Kicking. That’s the highest among Georgia kickers. He was 68-of-69 on extra points and 8-of-19 on field goals with a long of 46 last season. He put 48 of 83 kickoffs in the end zone. Ferguson has an offer from Arkansas State.
  • BC Playing One of the Toughest Schedules in the Country

Benedictine was designated to drop down a classification to play in Class 3A after the GHSA's most recent realignment, but BC appealed to stay up in Class 4A and was placed in Region 1-4A, considered by many to be the toughest in the state. BC will compete with defending Class 4A champion Perry, along with Ware County (2022 5A state champion), Warner Robins (2020 and 2021 5A state champion), Wayne County and local rival New Hampstead.
And the non-region schedule is also rugged with Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, Burke County and Westminster on the docket along with road games at Buford (2020 and 2021 6A state champions) and Archbishop Moeller, a powerhouse from Cincinnati, Ohio.
The schedule has been ranked as the third toughest in the nation and the most difficult in Georgia by Calpreps.com. The Cadets open their season Saturday, Aug. 7 in playing in the Erk Russell Classic at Georgia Southern against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, which went 13-1 last year. Britt said he is looking forward to the opener after a strong showing in the scrimmage with Camden County Friday.
