Football Athletes to Watch

One area that stands out this year is on the defensive side of the ball, in the front seven, where a number of players are holding big-time offers.  the top defensive linemen and linebackers returning in the Greater Savannah area for the 2024 season are:
Herbert "Third" Scroggins, Benedictine Senior
Scroggins has been a force on the edge during a stellar career for the Cadets and the four-star prospect committed to play at Miami. He had 11 sacks with 84 tackles, including 10 for losses, and 14 quarterback hurries as a junior
Kam Cody, Benedictine Junior
Kam has an inspiring story as he came back from a heart incident at a BC practice that nearly cost him his life. Cody had 78 tackles, including 10 for losses, with eight sacks and 12 quarterback hurries as a sophomore. The four-star junior defensive lineman has offers including Miami, Arkansas, USC and Minnesota.
Larson Little, Benedictine Junior
Junior linebacker returns after recording 100 tackles last season.

Here's a look at the top returning receivers and tight ends in the area to warch:
Bubba Frazier, Benedictine Junior
The junior had a big spring with the Cadet track and field team as a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished second and the 4x200 relay team that took home a gold medal in the Class 4A state track and field meet, while placing fifth in the 100 meters, where he has a personal best time of 10.69. Last year, he had 53 catches for 753 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 319 yards and four scores. He recently was offered by Georgia.
Josh Washington, Benedictine Junior
Washington transferred over from Savannah Country Day and will be eligible to play right away in his junior season. He had 38 catches for 445 yards and six touchdowns and ran for 99 yards and a score for the Hornets last season. Washington received an offer from Georgia Southern before starting his high school career.

The top Running Back to watch:
Stanley Smart, jr., Benedictine Sophomore
Smart will be the focus of the Cadets' run game this season, and the sophomore can definitely run. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder was a member of BC's 4x200 relay squad that won the Class 4A state title in the spring, and he won the freshman boys 100-meter title at the New Balance Nationals in June. He ran a time of 10.65 in that meet.

 Top Defensive backs:
Zach Maxwell, Benedictine Senior
The senior is a three-year starter for the Cadets and a leader in the backfield.
Micah Williams, Benedictine Junior
The junior earned All-Region 3-4A first-team honors last season when he amassed 75 tackles and intercepted a team-high three passes. He also caught nine passes for 121 yards and two scores and figures to have a bigger role offensively this season. Williams has an offer from North Carolina.
