4 Days for THE 400 - Alumni

4 Days for THE 400 Alumni Challenge: April 29-May 2

The Power of Participation Starts With YOU!
ALUMNI GOAL = 450 or more BC Alumni donors in just 4 days!

The Benedictine Fund is our top priority, and we really need alumni support to help us reach our goal of $945,000. The Benedictine Fund supports the operating budget and every Cadet, teacher, and program at BC. It provides the flexibility to respond to changing circumstances and to take advantage of new opportunities. It helps to bridge the gap between the actual cost of educating a student and the tuition. Every gift truly counts - no matter the size.  Thanks to the generosity of the BC community, the annual fund can support a wide range of needs across the school.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 5 items.

  • Why is the Benedictine Fund so important?

The Benedictine Fund is the school's second-largest revenue source after tuition, accounting for approximately 8.3 percent of BC’s operating budget. Annual giving is the lifeblood of any private school and is the catalyst to our success. It is the financial support from parents, alumni, and friends that keeps the institution strong. Our Cadets are the most direct and immediate beneficiaries of all Benedictine Fund gifts.
  • Why did BC start the 4 Day Alumni Giving Challenge?

During the fiscal year 2020-21, BC decided to launch a comprehensive alumni giving campaign to help promote alumni giving over just five days (4 days this year). Since we launched the campaign, we have grown alumni participation from averaging 19 percent participation to an average of 26 percent participation last year, which is great progress. We have such a loyal group of alumni, and we hope you will please consider a gift at any level this week to help us reach 27 percent or higher in alumni participation before June 30! Thank you in advance for your generosity and thank you for believing in our top priority, our Cadets!
  • Why is Alumni Participation so important?

Every alumnus has gained something from a Benedictine Military School education that has helped you in some way and has made you who you are today. A BC education is needed now more than ever so please pay it forward and give what you can give!

Your generosity is directly in support of the Benedictine Fund that allows the school to not only operate, but to thrive. It provides for day-to-day budgetary expenditures, from keeping the lights on to maintaining our beautiful campus. It provides our talented teachers with competitive salaries and professional development, so that we can attract and retain the best teaching professionals for our young men. It allows us to shine the light on each student's unique God-given gifts and talents so he can go out in the world and be the best version of himself. You name it, the Benedictine Fund helps make it possible!

Who will earn "CLASS OF THE YEAR"?

The coveted "Class of the Year" award will be presented at the annual Alumni Dinner in August.  This year, the winner of the "Class of the Year" will be determined through a points system which takes into account three categories:
1. Number of donors
2. Percent participation
3. Amount contributed

At the close of the fiscal year on June 30th, the top ten classes in each of the three categories will receive points. #1 in each category will receive 10 points, #2 will receive 9 points, #3 will receive 8 points. The total number of cumulative points will be totaled for each class and the winner will be crowned.

The "Class of the Year" will receive special recognition at dinner, as well as the monthly e-blast, website, social media, and the fall magazine. Father Frank will also host a special event for the class- usually a dinner in the Hospitality Suite at a home football game. The winning class will also have their class inscribed on the "Class of the Year" plaque which hangs in Alumni Hall. Good luck and remember- every dollar you donate helps our Cadets!

Alumni Testimonies

Billy Robinson '78, 4 Days for THE 400 Alumni Campaign Co-Chair
“If you are like me, BC significantly impacted your life! As I look back over the last 46 years since I graduated from Benedictine in 1978, it is clear that BC created a foundation that helped guide and navigate me through my life thus far. The brotherhood that lives on from the day you graduate until the day you die is one I will forever cherish. As alumni, I encourage all of us to do what we can in support of the annual Benedictine Fund campaign. The BC tradition is strong! Together we can ensure that tradition stays strong for many years to come!"

Dr. Paul Hinchey '02, 4 Days for THE 400 Alumni Campaign Co-Chair
“The purpose of the Benedictine fund is multifactorial. Not only do these funds help maintain the daily infrastructure and maintenance of the school grounds, but they also provide much-needed support for student scholarships. Benedictine desperately requires the generosity of its robust and loyal alumni network to maintain our traditions. Benedictine is completely unique regarding its indelible mark on the history and people of Savannah. There is not a day that goes by where I do not discuss Benedictine in some form or fashion with a patient or one of their family members. The camaraderie of its students and alumni network is second to none. One would be hard pressed to find another school that better instills the values of leadership, spirituality, and brotherhood in young men than Benedictine Military School."

Mr. Christopher Phillips '79
"As alumni, we should all be very grateful for our time at BC, knowing that it provided each of us the education, guidance, and brotherhood that helped mold us into the men we are today. With this benefit comes the duty to give back to the school through the Annual Fund to ensure that future young men can continue to experience the same benefits of a BC education."

Mr. Timothy Blanco '95
"We find it important to support Benedictine's 400 Alumni Campaign each year because the cost to educate a student continues to increase. Benedictine is a unique place and provides a unique experience that changes the lives of families. Our hope is that we are helping families, that are stretching to send their son to Benedictine, to experience the generational changing opportunity which my family was blessed to receive."

Mr. Richard Lutz '84
"It is somewhat impossible to place a value on a Benedictine Military School education. When a prospective employer knows that you graduated from BC, they immediately think to themselves, 'Discipline, structure, goal-oriented, teamwork, team player, and camaraderie.' I will be forever grateful that I was able to follow in my father's footsteps (our son, Kaelan, also received a Benedictine education), receive a Benedictine education, have a successful business career and, most importantly, create lifelong friendships, and create a brotherhood with my classmates and other graduates of BC."

Mr. Michael Ware, Jr., '79
"I owe BC so very much for both the education it provided me, at well below the cost of doing so, as well as the community it allows me to stay so closely attached with even 45 years after my graduation (not the norm for high schools). My daughters have graduated from a wonderful private high school in Marietta and will both be soon graduated from UGA (Go Dogs!) ... personal payroll is shrinking rapidly! I now have some disposable income to give to institutions I respect and cherish. Benedictine will always be at or near the top of my list. Please give what you can, when you can."

Mr. Gil Werntz '80
"Benedictine is a values-based institution. Our core values are Character, Spirituality, Purpose, and Brotherhood. BC exists for one reason: to make better men because of a life lived only for oneself is a life wasted. It really is that simple.

Mr. Harry Haslam, Jr., '69
"I have, as do other alumni, an obligation to repay to Benedictine what has been so graciously afforded me. Education, discipline, a religious foundation, a lifetime of close-knit friends, membership into a brotherhood who are always there, and a continuing relationship with the Benedictine monks. We give so others may follow in our footsteps. Financial assistance is necessary for many deserving young men to attend BC. Donate today! A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit. Donate so future generations can enjoy the benefits of a Benedictine education. Education is the first and most important building block of society. Your contribution to Benedictine provides an education and more for deserving young men, the leaders of tomorrow.
