CADETS: Prayer and Action can earn you service hours this summer!
4/6/2017

Attention, BC Cadets:
Prayer and Action is a mission experience that several Benedictine Cadets have attended the last two summers. This summer will be the third year this camp has been in the Diocese of Savannah, and it has made a huge impact on our Savannah teens. This is the website: https://diosav.org/oyyam-prayerandaction and below is this year's flier. The camp is a week-long overnight camp that serves our community during the days by doing mission work, and enrishes our teens' faith in the evening. It also is a great way to earn service hours while making a difference for others.

2015-16 Benedictine Textbook List and summer reading list
6/1/2015

An updated textbook list was released July 2 to correct the ISBN number for freshman College Prep World Geography. We have also had some parents ask about the possibility of purchasing an e-Text version of the texts. Benedictine asks that parents do not buy an e-Text version of any texts unless that text is solely for at-home use. Benedictine has adopted a new electronics policy which does not allow electronic devices on the physical person of our students during the academic school day. Thank you very much.

Matthew Nyce wins Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award; Matthew Hogan selected as an alternate
3/19/2015

Every year, the Lions Club of Savannah pays for one sophomore from Benedictine Military School and one sophomore from St. Vincent's Academy to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Summer Camp (HOBY). The student from each school selected for this honor must meet the criteria set forth by HOBY, including demonstrated leadership ability, outstanding communication skills, creative problem solving, and active involvement in community service. This year's winner of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award is a student who exceeds these criteria both in and out of the classroom. It is with great pleasure that BC announces Matthew Nyce as this year's HOBY recipient. Congratulations, Matthew Nyce!!! In the unfortunate event that Matthew is unable to attend the HOBY camp this summer, BC would like to announce Matthew Hogan as his alternate and BC's second-place winner! Congratulations, Matthew Hogan!!!

BC's JROTC earns Honor Unit with Distinction for 29th consecutive year
2/20/2015

Benedictine Military School's JROTC program, under the direction of Senior Army Instructor Col. Richard E. LaRossa, scored 99.4 out of a possible 100 points Thursday during the JROTC Program for Accreditation (JPA) to earn Honor Unit with Distinction for a 29th consecutive year.

For the past 28 years, BC's JROTC program participated in the Regional Formal Inspection (RFI), which is conducted by BC's higher Headquarters, 6th Brigade, United States Army Cadet Command. The Cadets proudly earned the accolade of Honor Unit with Distinction for all 28 years (symbolized by a Gold Star worn on their uniforms).

Last summer, the United States Army Cadet Command designed a program to replace RFI. It is called the JROTC Program for Accreditation (JPA). Portions of the new assessment mirror the past form of accreditation, and the significant differences between the RFI and JPA are points distribution, Cadets present an additional brief on their Service Learning Project (BC's was its annual food drive), and Cadre evaluations.

Brad Stewart wins Ashley Dearing Award!!!
4/29/2014

Congratulations to Benedictine Military School junior Brad Stewart, who is the winner of the 61st Ashley Dearing Award! Stewart is the 14th BC student-athlete to win the award and the school's first since Lamar Owens, Jr., in 2001. The award is named after the late Ashley Dearing, a former Savannah auto dealer and strong supporter of local high school sports. It is given to a male high school athlete in Savannah who has participated in football, basketball and a spring sport. There were 60 nominees for the award this year. The nominee who received the most votes from the Ashley Dearing Award committee was declared the winner. The committee was made up of members of the media, including WJCL, WSAV, WTOC and the Savannah Morning News, as well as all athletic directors in Chatham County who have varsity football, varsity basketball and varsity spring sports. The BC Family is extremely proud of Brad!

The deadline for submission of enrollment contracts was March 31, 2014.  If you have not sent in your contract, please do so.  Without the contract, your son is not guaranteed he can return or attend Benedictine. Your son must have a 2014-15 enrollment contract on file in order to participate in spring and summer workouts.  This is a liability issue for BC.  We cannot have our students participating in workouts who are not enrolled in our school.

Advertisement for Bids on B-Wing Improvements
3/25/2014

Benedictine is planning for renovations on the Academic Building for the summer of 2014.  Please click here for the Advertisement for Bids.  Benedictine uses the following procedures when working with general contractors and subcontractors.

GENERAL CONTRACTORS

The Savannah architectural firm of Gunn Meyerhoff Shay,  in conjunction with our Steering Committee, identifies a short list of general contractors that are well qualified to perform the work.  The firm solicits lump-sum competitive bids from the general contractors on the Project Announcement for Bidding.  If you would like more information to submit a bid, please contact  Steve Ward at SWard@GMShay.com or 912-232-1151.

SUBCONTRACTORS

Each general contractor develops a list of subcontractors to use on the project. Benedictine does not receive individual subcontractor bids or recommend subcontractors to general contractors.  Subcontractors should not contact Benedictine directly.

Congrats to BC's Riflemen! Good luck in the state semifinals!!!

Robin, whose son Brandon is a junior at BC, won't brag about the great photo she took but we're certainly glad her husband, John '85, sent it to us. This was Col. LaRossa's first St. Patrick's Day Parade as BC's SAI. He, his cadre and the Cadets did a fantastic job!
